According to the Statista, In July 2014, Google Play Store had 1.3 million apps & Apple’s App Store remained the second-largest app store with 1.2 million available apps with thousands of apps adding  daily.

People with app idea often ask me, “How can my app break through this clutter?”

My answer to them remains same. Find the purpose of your app.

The app has to have a reason to be out there. Answer the following questions to come up with the purpose of your app:

Whose problem are you solving?

Which problem are you solving?

What makes your app different than others?

If you don’t have the exact answers for the above questions, don’t go for the app development. Because eventually you will be wasting your time & money on a product which don’t have a reason to be out there.

Guy Kawasaki emphasize defining purpose of your product. He advocates one sentence mantra over boring mission statement.

Take a look at the mantras of some successful apps:

Whatsapp : “Simple. Personal. Real Time Messaging.”

Instagram : “Capture and Share the World’s Moments”

Flipboard : “Flipboard is Your Personal Magazine”

When we developed Freshers, our mantra was clear, “Fresher’s companion in recruitment process”.

Keep your mantra in a sentence. If you need more than a sentence to state your mantra then go back to your app idea & work on it to make it simpler.

Whenever you will come up with some new, cool feature, ask yourself, “Is this aligning with my mantra?”

Just define your mantra & you will feel a lot comfortable while making smaller decision about your first mobile app.
