And to do that, we first need to destroy some of your false beliefs.
So let’s get started on that.
- False Belief #1 : You need to build app for all 3 OS
We get many prospect email requirements to build a mobile app for all 3 operating systems (Android, iOS & Windows) but in many cases, it doesn’t make sense to develop for the all 3 operating systems because mostly, their target audience is not present on those operating systems or the audience is too small size.
When we developed event apps solution for colleges in India, we deliberately kept it Android only. The majority of college students in India use android smart phones So it doesn’t make sense for us to spend our time on iOS & Windows versions.
According to the Statista report of Market share held by mobile operating systems in India in March 2015, Android held a market share of 59.72% whereas Windows & iOS are below 2%.
So if your target market is India then you should have a compelling reason to have iOS & Windows version, otherwise with a tight budget, it is wise to go for android only with about 60% market share than to target iOS & Windows which is less than 4% combined.
Not to mention that, If your mobile app succeeds then you can build an app for other operating systems & if it didn’t then by building for one operating system, you had saved your bucks.
