Hiring will be the crucial phase in your startup journey. It’s going to be your biggest investment, so don’t mess it up.

As entrepreneurs, we often get pressured into hiring an industry executive. While it’s good to hire people with experience, it can also be a stumbling block because they think about the business the same way everyone else does.

If you’re a start-up then you must be having constraints on money & resources, so I am not going to list conventional positions here.

  • Mobile App Developer
This is a no brainier. The person should know how to code well & should able to work in collaboration with other team members. Addition to technical knowledge, he must have a UX knowledge.
  • UI/UX Designer
This position often gets missed by majority of tech startups. A design can make or break your app. So invest here. The designer must know how to design apps by keeping end users in mind.
  • Content Marketer + Social Media Marketer
As a startup, we generally have a tight budget so rather than buying expensive ads, spend it on content marketing which is slow but a surefire way to success. An addition to the SEO, it helps to establish ourselves as an authority in our field.
The person should be responsible for creating content & posting it on social media accounts. A good blogger can be a good fit here.
  • Sweeper

Sweeper should communicate with other team members to make sure that everyone is working towards the same goal. A good choice for this position will be a Co-founder.

  • Sales + Support Person

The person will communicate with prospects & will try to convert them into sales. He will also need to communicate with customers just in case of any problem. A bad support person can damage your company’s reputation. I am not a big fan of outsourcing support. A good choice for this position will be a Co-founder.

Instead of replicating the positions from established companies, create positions according to your startup needs. Always diversify your team.

Your team will decide the fate of your mobile app start-up so get it right.
